Subject: My First Show, too
The day they released "In The Dark" and, in true GD-anti-establishment-fashion, they don't play ONE song from it! CLASSIC! The 2nd set of this show is just insane. The Shakedown & Samson are rippin'....then along come the Neville Brothers...the whole damn band! The first version of "Knockin" withOUT Mr. Dylan and it's gorgeous.
What a way to get on the bus. This is the best AUD I've heard of this show - I would kill for a SBD copy if anyone has a line on it!

Subject: the hottest show i everwas at !
it smoked the whole way thru, esp the lightning bolt that "struck" abit into aiko it was just like a bolt of electricity surged thru the whole speaker system
any one remember? shhaazzzaaammmmm!!!!!!!!
the show of 87, my personal best of all i saw 4/3/86- fall philly shows in 88.
excellent live recording, this seems 2 have BEST audience cheer&singin >check early aiko u HEAR the crowd sing along, still has warmest bass with speakers or headphones, this really "bottled" the live sound to share with non deadheads, the balance between the band & singing-a-long is the BEST i ever heard, plus i was there i saw the lightnin bolt strike !!!!!!!!!!
would love to hear a hybird mix with some soundboard if ever poosible.
such "live" presence, a great recording to turn people on to what they missed ! ms42466@gmail.com

Subject: Dylanesque amendem
With all due respect to Bob (Dylan not Weir, in this case) this show (and 6/30, 7/2, 7/7, 7/8) were arguably the strongest of the year.

I think the IDEA of having dylan with the GD on stage was quite different than the EXPERIENCE of those stadium shows.

Anyway, great first set. But the second set is when things get cooking.
Shakedown->samson??? Hot!!! Probably the best of this year and at least remniscent of '85 (not quite there, however).
iko->day-o->women. Heaven's Door out of space (speaking of Mr Dylan) was a gem. Bob brings us up and dancing again with Good Lovin'.

Johnny was the only way to cash out - can you imagine Brokedown or BMR after Heaven's Door?? Me Neither.
4 and 1/2 stars
Enjoy!!!

My first show--and an amazing start to the GD journey. Went on to see most Pgh and Philly shows in late eighties while in college at Penn State. Remember the look on Jerry's face when Neville Bros came on stage (smiling broadly). I was amazed how everyone danced throughout 2nd set. When Heaven's Door started, we finally sat down and took a break.

Subject: Totally excellent 2nd Set!
I have fond memories of post-show grooving to this tape on tour...Reminds me of good times with Mary K, Dave, and George. FUN stuff with the Neville Brothers! Great audience recording here, and a simply spectacular run of tunes in the 2nd set.

I always looked at this as Jerry's comeback party. It was during the Dylan tour but he wasn't scheduled, so there was lots of rumors that he might just show up. Well special guests did show up, the Neville Brothers who rocked out on Iko-Iko DayO and Woman Are Smarter if I remember correctly.

The Shakedown is awesome, listen for Jerry's skat singing. And there wasn't a dry eye in the place after the Knocking on Heaven's door.
